Akershus Fortress & museums

The Fortress area is open to the public from 6 am to 9 pm. Changing of the guards at 1:30pm.

Astrup Fearnley Museum

Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art is a private contemporary art museum that produces temporary exhibitions of international art.

Film Museum

Film Museum has a permanent exhibit from Norwegian film history, as well as a number of other exhibits, screenings, launches and other events. Children and youth are an important target group, among other things through film offerings at Filmens Hus for schools and day-care centers.

Fram

The Fram Museum (The Polar Ship Fram) shows the history of the polar explorers. Here you’ll find the world’s most famous polarship, Fram, from 1892, the museums main attraction.

Historical Museum

Beyond the National Gallery (entrance at Frederiksgate 2) is the Historical Museum (1903), which contains Oslo University's historical and ethnographic collections. Among the Nordic antiquities the rich collection of material on the Viking age (ca. 800-1050) is particularly noteworthy. There are also a collection of material on the Eskimo and Siberian peoples and a coin cabinet.

Ibsen Museum

The Ibsen Museum consists of two major parts: A new comprehensive exhibit featuring the playwright Ibsen's life and work, and Ibsen's private home, where he lived the last 11 years of his life.

Kon-Tiki Museum

The Kon-Tiki Museum is a private foundation, which houses a range of boats and artefacts from Thor Heyerdahl’s expeditions.

Museum of Children´s Art

The International Museum of Children´s Art in Oslo, Norway is a pioneer institution, being the world´s first full scale Museum of Child Art. Today, the museum´s art collection contains art works by children and young from more than 180 countries.

Norwegian Maritime Museum

The Norwegian Maritime Museum is in a fantastic location, right on the edge of the Oslo Fjord. The museum was built on a naze overlooking the city, called Bygdøynes, and is right next door to the Kon-Tiki and Fram Museums, so visitors can see all three maritime museums and enjoy exploring the grounds and beach as well.

Here you can experience and learn about traditional Norwegian culture and history. During summer, a variety of activities take place in the Open-Air Museum

Oslo City Museum

Oslo City Museum is located in the Frogner Manor. The museum has an extensive library with the purpose of documenting the history of the City of Oslo.

The Historical Museum

The Historical Museum's first floor houses the exhibition From the Ice Age until Christianity, with artefacts representing people's lives in Norway over the past 9000 years, dating back to and including the Viking Era.

Vigeland Sculpture Park

The Frogner Park is part of the Frogner Manor and is the most famous park in Norway, it was created by sculptor Gustav Vigeland between the years 1907 and 1942.

Viking Ship Museum

The Viking Ship Museum at Bygdøy is one of the two buildings comprising the Museum of Cultural History. In the Viking Ship Museum there are grave finds from Tune, Gokstad, Oseberg and Borre.
